Independent Study: Day One

Writing Time: 5h

Today was the first day of my independent study, a three and a half week period during which I have no academic obligations other than to work on my thesis: a 20-25,000 word novella. I worked for a few hours in the morning at Wild Goose Cafe, and later I worked for two more hours in the library. The story’s only just beginning to take shape, but I seem to be writing a satirical, magical realism piece about all boy’s preparatory schools. I’m having a lot of fun so far.

P.S. I know I haven’t posted for the last two weeks. I’ve been writing, though — the usual rhythm. Usually two hours a day. I finished a complete draft of “Beyond the Walls” and drafted a creative nonfiction essay about video games.
