After working on “Beyond the Walls” for a while, I returned to a collection of short, nonfiction paragraphs that I wrote last year. I started compiling them into an essay that will tell the story of my relationship with video games, from when I first played Minecraft at six or seven years old, through the pandemic, when video games were the only way that I could spend time with my friends, until today.
